About Us PDF Print E-mail

Moab Aikido is a fledgling dojo in the middle of the beautiful desert southeastern Utahs. Since Moab is a fairly small town with only about 9000 year round residents to draw from, our classes are generally pretty small as well. We still keep this corner of the universe illuminated with the spirit of Aikido, and welcome any visiting Aikidoka, however brief your stay. We have two National Parks right outside of town, and the natural scenery is just spectacular.

About the instructor:

The current main instructor of Moab Aikido is Ata Calfee, who began her studies of the art in Aalen, Germany under the guidance of Karl Koeppel (now 7th Dan), and Thomas Prim Senseis (now 5th Dan). Her training continued later with James Friedman Sensei (5th Dan) in San Francisco, and Wolfgang Baumgartner Sensei (6th Dan) in Reno, Nevada, before she settled in Santa Cruz, CA for ten years. There, she immersed herself in studying with Linda Holiday (6th Dan) and Glen Kimoto Senseis (5th Dan) at Aikido of Santa Cruz, formerly called North Bay Aikido. In 2003, Ata moved to Moab, UT, where she practices Aikido, Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, and Taiko drumming with the Moab Taiko Dan. She currently holds the rank of Nidan. Ata is affiliated with Hombu Dojo in Tokio, Japan.
